religion/profession/race/interests etc.

used for community in Old Testament,
EDHAH = Assembly or Congregation
Word used for community in
New Testament, EKKLESIA = Assembly, Church
`called out ones’
Examples = Gen 28:3 / Gen 48:4 / Psalm 40:10
Matthew 16:18 / 1Corinthians 1:2 / Ephesians 1:22-23
In Revelation 5:9-10 we have a wonderful picture of what it means
to be part of God’s community. Read and

They devoted themselves
to….. What do you think this really means ?
It is not a casual or
occasional thing but a devotion of the heart to god and his people. It is not a
duty but a way of life and of first priority.
The Apostles
teaching
Word based exaltation and
instruction to enable us to know who we are as the people of God and how we
should live to please God.
How can we show our devotion to the Word of God?
And to the fellowship
Caring/Sharing/ befriending/relationships/giving/hospitality/being
involved.
The word fellowship KOINONIA = `Sharing together in’ `Partnership’
How can we express and develop fellowship within the
Church?
The Breaking of Bread
They went from house to
house breaking bread = Sharing a meal, and in this context remembered The
Lord’s death, using the bread and wine as symbols of his body and blood.
This is a fellowship
activity shared in the context of relationship.
When and how can we break bread together?
And to Prayer
Praying individually/For
each other/ together/
This must be a common
activity amongst the people of God.
Give examples of prayer in the New Testament Church
and in the life of Jesus?
Read and prayer through the pattern for prayer given
by Jesus in response to the disciples
request `Teach us to pray’ in
Pray that as a Church we will become a people
devoted to prayer this year.
